This is the only cave in Germany that is surrounded by beautiful calcium crystals and rocks. You will get great input on the geological history of the area that takes you back to the ice ages. There is a 30 m tall show cave,a cave lake and so much more to see. Guided tours take about 45 minutes. There is a bistro and beer garden restaurant adjacent to the caves.

Opening Hours:

March 28th - November 2, 2008
2 p.m. - 4 p.m. (last tour starts at 4 p.m.) on weekdays
10 a.m. - 5 p.m. (last tour starts at 5 p.m.) on weekends

Related Links:

- Kristallhöhle Kubach website

Address:

Kristallhöhle Kubach
Auf dem Kalk 1, 35781 Weilburg - Kubach
Phone: +49 (0) 6471 94000

Where to stay during your visit:

We recommend staying at our Live Like a German vacation apartments in Wetzlar (distance is 22 km / 13 miles) or Waldgirmes (distance is 29 km / 18 miles.)
A canoe tour on the Lahn river is great fun for the whole family! There are local businesses for renting canoes. They even do guided tours.

We recommend this one in Weilburg:

Kanutouren / Kanuverleih Weilburg
Phone: +49 (0) 6471 490154
Aktivhotel Lindenhof
Frankfurt Strasse 23
35796 Weilburg

They offer various packages. In their basic package you rent the canoes and all the equipment, incl. pick-up of the canoes after the tour. Before the canoe tour they provide you with tips and guidance to make sure you know how to get along on the Lahn river. For a day tour the price is 17 Euro per person for this package. It starts in Löhnberg until Fürfurt, over Runkel.

You will get more out of their “Clubtour.” This tour starts in the morning at 9:30 am at Frankfurter Strasse 23 in Weilburg. They give you a tour and overview about the canoes at the Weilburger Bootshaus. The canoe tour itself then takes 3 hours. Enjoy the great scenery along the Lahn river, historic castles, and more. There will be a short stop in between, where you can have a picnic and lunch. The tour then ends around 3 pm in Fürfurt. A bus will pick you up and return you to Weilburg. The team of the Aktivhof Linden is already waiting for you and will prepare a delicious BBQ with steaks, German sausages, and fresh seasonal salads. Drink a cold beer in their Biergarten and enjoy the rest of the day in a relaxing atmosphere. They also own an Irish pub, where you can enjoy live music on Fridays and Saturdays. You can even book canoe tours that span over multiple days!

Related Links:

- Official Weilburg website
- Weilburg's castle and the castle's garden
private website about the town history, buildings, sights and more
Wikipedia: Weilburg

Where to stay during your visit:

We recommend staying at our Live Like a German vacation apartments in Wetzlar (distance is 22 km / 13 miles) or Waldgirmes (distance is 29 km / 18 miles.) They offer bounce houses, mega slides, miniature golf, arcade games and more in and outside. There is also a cafe where you can purchase drinks and food. Choose your ice cream in a waffle to go or sit down and get an "Eis Becher" from the menu. We promise you won't regret stopping by this place.

We usually try to beat the jet-lag on our first night by coming here. Our favorites are "Spaghetti Eis” (Vanilla ice cream that looks like spaghetti, covered with a strawberry sauce and vanilla sprinkles and finished with whipped cream - see picture above) or "Heisse Liebe" (Vanilla ice cream and hot raspberries). Or, try the coconut ice cream, with chocolate topping and sprinkles (see picture above.) This one also was very delicious!

The kids love their ice cream kids menu. are many almost artistic ice cream creations. For example, this one is called “Biene Maja” (the famous bee from a German cartoon series.)

Also very delicious are their cappuccinos and espressos. Make sure to let the waiter know if you want Sahne (whipped cream) or Schaum (foam) on top of your cappuccino.

Below is their number and a description on how to get there.
