Hesse’s major advantage is its central location in the middle of Germany. From Hesse’s central European location, you can take many interesting day trips or even schedule 2-3 nights away for an extra- special excursion to add to your vacation plans. 


For example, there are numerous larger cities and metropolitan areas in Germany, such as Frankfurt, Cologne, Heidelberg, Munich, and Berlin. They are all a relatively short driving distance away. You can quite easily visit and then return to the comfort of your “own German home” away from home.


In addition, lush meadows and beautiful forests will easily invite to hike. Hesse perhaps has the most green forest expanses in Germany. Stay in a small and charming village (e.g., Waldgirmes), which offers many hiking and bicycling trails, the Lahn River, and a forest nearby. Visit historic castles (e.g., Castle Braunfels, Castle Greifenstein), or simply casually explore your local neighborhood leisurely. 


Alternatively, you can stay in an historic old town like Wetzlar, experience its rich culture, and explore interesting sights and museums. Small restaurants and shops are within a short walking distance. From Wetzlar, you can take a day trip to the Rhine River (where you can enjoy a pleasant boat tour), or experience wine tasting around the Moselle River.

Wetzlar’s historic “Old Town” offers many unique older buildings and museums. This section of Wetzlar was also a temporary home to the famous writer Goethe in 1772.

Even just a simple walk past Braunfels’ market place and into the outer rings of the castle walls will amaze you since it takes you back to medieval times.
