Banking

There is a local Bank (Sparkasse Wetzlar) that provides an ATM located at Friedenstrasse 29. Good news: US-based ATM cards actually work here, as do credit cards!

Monday 8:30 a.m. - 12 p.m.,  2 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Tuesday 8:30 a.m. - 12 p.m.,  2 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

Wednesday 8:30 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Thursday 8:30 a.m. - 12 p.m.,  2 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

Friday 8:30 a.m. - 12 p.m.,  2 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Many shops and gas stations accept credit cards too, but you cannot rely on it. In many cases, being ready to pay cash is the safest.

We recommend:

  1. BulletBringing enough cash with you (Euros) to cover the first few days of your stay. The ATMs at the airport will accept US-based ATM cards, so get a few euros when you arrive.

  2. BulletThe current exchange rate is roughly 1.55, so for every Euro you have to pay US $1.55.

  3. BulletIf a shop accepts credit cards, use that instead to save your cash and get a better conversion rate.

  4. BulletGo to our local ATM if you need additional cash.

Gas Stations

There is a local gas station located at Rodheimer Strasse, just before you turn into Haustädter Strasse. Typically, you fill up your car first at the pump, and then pay inside. Some gas stations accept credit cards, but it’s safest to ask inside before you start pumping if you don’t have cash.

At the train station in Wetzlar, you can explore Germany by train. There is unfortunately no Waldgirmes train station.
