Churchyard is the oldest surviving stone house in Germany.

Before our era was at the point where today the city Pfalzel, a Celtic settlement, as stated by the discovery of cremations in recent times. It is believed that was the Moselle River crossing of the Celtic trade route from the Lower Rhine on the Eifel and Hunsrück regions at the present site Pfalzel.

Already around the turn of time, the Romans, attracted by the fertile plain and the beautiful scenic location, a large palace here (Palatiolum), probably built as a center for the management of a large Roman estate. Around 590 began the Frankish King Clotaire II, and later his son Dagobert I, on the ruins of a Roman palace fränk. Royal court (Villa Regia), who built the Merovingians and Carolingians also served as a palace and fortress. 625 Bishop of Trier Modoald gründte in a part of the royal palace, a monastery, which the abbess presided Basilissa.

Adula founded around 700, a daughter of King Dagobert II, a convent for noble ladies. At that time, already mentioned by the historian of the town next to the Royal Castle Palatiolum as a city. In the late fall of 718 Adula Äbtistin received as visiting the monastery of St.. Boniface. From here, the grandson of Adula took this with a student. He died as the Saint. Bishop Gregory of Utrecht.

Due to deterioration of the breeding Archbishop Poppo lifted the convent in 1027 and turned it into a canon. By setting up a school where all ethnic groups were taught for free, this pen contributed significantly to raising the cultural and intellectual center for Pfalzel made throughout the district. With the secularization in 1802 the monastery was abolished and the property sold. The eastern corner of the Roman system with your still upright masonry Adula served immediately after the founding of the monastery to build the still-standing church.

Around 1140 built himself the archbishop of Trier Albero on the western hills of the Roman system a castle and temporarily moved his residence to here. In 1146 Henry was burning down the count of Namur, the futile attempt of the castle. After major renovations in the years 1260 -1286 the castle of the Trier archbishops ever served as a summer residence. In disputes with the city of Trier ruled by princes Pfalzel from the electorate. Multiple served the ever-increasing castle as a base for armed conflict. Archbishop Kuno von Falkenstein, built around 1370, during a dispute with the city of Trier, Count, Pfalzel in a customs office. By a strong chain that was stretched across the Moselle, and all were stopped by to Trier-propelled vessels for customs payments. At the same time, the castle with the city by a strong wall was Pfalzel attached. By and by establishing a Electoral Office (present parish hall residence street) and a coin gained Pfalzel, despite the near Trier, a city quite important. In the years 1531 -1539 the city walls by Archbishop John of Metzenhausen by modern fortifications were replaced for the gun battle. This is still preserved to a large extent with embrasures and bastions initially charged with moat, but without battlements. In 1552, Albrecht of Brandenburg, besieged in his fight against Archbishop John IV, the castle and the town and burned it Pfalzel. However, it was rebuilt. In the years 1673/74, the castle was badly damaged by French troops in 1678 and burned by them completely with the city. Castle and fortress were now not rebuilt.
