Year-round, we offer vacation apartments with shower/toilet, satellite or terrestrial digital TV and kitchens with modern equipment, and including with towels and bed sheets (minimum stay is 3 days). The apartments are 30-45 m² large, ideal for 2-4 guests and are located in the center of Oestrich-Winkel (in the district Winkel). Special prices for bookings of 7 days. You can also book breakfast for an additional € 8.50 per day.

You can also book private double rooms for overnight stays including breakfast. Due to personnel constraints, stays of two days and over can only be in the vacation apartment, but these can also include breakfast (EUR 8.50 per person per day).

We are a centrally located starting point for hiking tours on the Rheinsteig, to castles or through forests in the mountains of the Rheingau, as well as fascinating boat tours on the Rhine. You can visit various monuments of culture, such as churches, monasteries and castles, and you can celebrate on the many wine festivals, at the winemakers’, in wine houses and the so-called Strausswirtschaften, and of course in the renowned Drosselgasse in Rüdesheim.

Above our town district you find the wine estate Castle Vollrads with a water tower from the 13th century, one of the most renowned wine growers in Germany.

Hikers may be interested in hearing that the excellent hiking path Rheinsteig leads right by the castle.

Short History of Winkel:

A first mention of Winkel, then as “Winkela,” dates back to a document from 850 about a certain church St. Walpurgis, about which neither location nor building details are known. The settlement’s name later changed to “Langenwinkel” or “Winicella” before reverting back to Winkel. The Grey House is said to be the oldest stone residential building in Germany; it used to be in the possession of the lords of Winkel, called Greiffenclau, who can be traced back to the year 1191.Supposedly, this house was the summer residence of the bishop Rhabanus Maurus of Mainz (Mainz vacation rentals | Mainz travel guide) (around 856), an important Carolingian scholar. There are legends talking of how the poor were fed during a famine. The bishop’s monument is to be found in front of the parish church in Winkel.

In 1467, Richard von Greiffenclau zu Vollrads, later archbishop and elector of Trier (Trier vacation rentals | Trier travel guide), was born in Castle Vollrads.

Among others, Goethe himself was a long-time guest in the Brentano-House around 1814. It belonged to the banker family Brentano from Frankfurt.

The families children were Clemens, Gunda and Bettina Brentano. Bettina’s friend, the Romantic poet Karoline von Günderode (1780 – 1806) committed suicide on the banks of the Rhine in Winkel, desperate about a lost love. Many Romantic poets were regulars at the summer house of the Brentano family.

Gutenberg, Klauserberg, Erntebringer, Hasensprung, Dachsberg, Honigberg, Bienenberg.

The main grape variety is the well-known Riesling.
