Wannsee is a lovely neighborhood in the southeast of Germany’s capital. Surrounded by lakes and rivers, Wannsee offers visitors a relaxing place to come home after a full day of sightseeing in downtown Berlin.
Berlin-Wannsee is a locality of Berlin. Berlin is the capital city of Germany and one of the 16 states (Länder) of the Federal Republic of Germany. Berlin is the largest city in Germany and has a population of 4.5 million within its metropolitan area and 3.4 million within the city limits. Berlin is best known for its historical associations as the German capital, for its lively nightlife, for its many cafes, clubs, and bars, and for its numerous museums, palaces, and other sites of historic interest. Berlin's architecture is quite varied. Although badly damaged in the final years of World War II and broken asunder during the Cold War, Berlin has reconstructed itself greatly, especially with the reunification push after the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. It is now possible to see representatives of many different historic periods in a short time within the city center, from a few surviving medieval buildings near Alexanderplatz, to the ultramodern glass and steel structures in Potsdamer Platz. Because of its tumultuous history, Berlin remains a city with many distinctive neighborhoods.
Insider Tips for Berlin-Wannsee It's a beautiful neighborhood. Berlin is a great city full of history, ancient treasures, memories, fun and excitement. One of my favorite cities!
[ source: http://facebook.com/live.like.a.german/ ] Berlin-Wannsee with its borough Steglitz-Zehlendorf, the "green district" in Berlin, is a great place to relax from a hectic day of sightseeing. You feel like you left the city behind and enter a section of the city that has a small town feel. My brother lives in Steglitz and when I first visited him, i couldn't believe I was still in Berlin.
To live there means to experience culture and nature. You can without stress and hectic visit the Bruecke Museum or the Ethnologisches Museum, since they are never crowded like the museums in the city, spend some time in the Grunewald or in the countless parks or just take a stroll through the exclusive residential district with its historic houses and villas. I am always looking forward to visit this neighborhood and just think of the song Pack die Badehose ein und dann nichts wie raus nach Wannsee :)

First documented in the thirteenth century, Berlin was successively the capital of the Kingdom of Prussia (1701-1918), the German Empire (1871-1918), the Weimar Republic (1919-1933) and the Third Reich (1933-1945).[4] After World War II, the city was divided; East Berlin became the capital of East Germany while West Berlin became a Western enclave, surrounded by the Berlin Wall from 1961-1989. Following German reunification in 1990, the city regained its status as the capital of all Germany.
