Burg Anholt was built in the mid 13th Century and the city is intrinsically tied to it. Anholt was combined with Isselburg in January 1975.

Isselburg is a town in the district of Borken, in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is located on the river Issel, near the border with the Netherlands, and approximately 10 km west of Bocholt.
