In the course of administrative reforms in Bavaria, Aschheim and Dornach were separate political communities. In 1978, the neighboring village of Dornach was then combined with Aschheim. Although a fairly new city in Germany, the area contains the oldest so far discovered remains of settlements that date from the period 2300 to 1600 BC.
