Bad Nauheim Overview

In the foothills of the Taunus lies the spa town of Bad Nauheim. Since 150 years, this town is world famous because of its natural and carbonated salt springs. With its beautiful parks and forests, the wealth of artistic and social life, Bad Nauheim is a town of high quality and perfect for people who are in search of healing and relaxation. Frankfurt (Frankfurt vacation rentals | Frankfurt travel guide) am Main, with its international airport, is only about 20 miles away, which makes Bad Nauheim also popular amongst visitors from all over the world.

By 1800, Nauheim was still a simple Wetterauer village; and today, when you reach the top of the Johannisberg - overlooking the entire city - you can still clearly see the old village with its beautiful half-timbered houses, standing close together. At the beginning of the 20th century many new streets, like the Park Street with its magnificent villas, extended the old town and gave Bad Nauheim a more urban and sophisticated character. The construction of the Art Nouveau bath facilities and the establishment of numerous medical institutions was the culmination of the architectural history of Bad Nauheim.

Bad Nauheim is proud of its worldwide unique resort features. Sprudelhof and the curing drinking-facilities are considered one of the largest coherent Art Nouveau installations in Germany. Many places in the town invite you to linger. There are countless street cafes, cozy restaurants and bars where you can enjoy the summer months in the sun. With a variety of shops, the downtown area is ideal for shopping and strolling. Whether you prefer a specialty restaurant, traditional cider premises or quaint pubs, with and without a variety of entertainment programs - you'll find something for every taste! Everywhere in Bad Nauheim historic architecture is striking, be it around the Aliceplatz, along the pedestrian zone in the Stresemannstraße or the Terassenstraße, the buildings display art nouveau floral - and neoclassical ornaments.

Well-maintained parks invite you to stroll and relax. The spacious lawns with its many ancient giant trees always open up new perspectives on water features. Expansive lake areas with majestic gliding swans and colorful roses and summer flowers make a time spent here always worthwhile. The large park is close to the city forest with its idyllic forest ponds.

Right next to the Hotel Grunewald, on the Elvis-Presley-Platz, is the Elvis-Stele. It became a place of pilgrimage for true fans, leaving flowers and little messages in all languages of the world. Two most popular photo opportunities are the bridge over the River Usa, where Elvis had once been photographed, and the castle gate, where the image was created for the album cover of A Big Hunk O 'Love. Very close to the city library is another attraction at the Goethestraße No. 14, where the Elvis clan moved in late 1958. In Goethestraße, Elvis stayed until the end of his service in March 1960. Here, he also set up a studio, the G, in which many of his great songs, such as It's Now or Never, were recorded.

In Bad Nauheim you can also follow Elvis culinary traces: Cafe Bienenkorb still bakes and serves the original Elvis chocolate cake - the kind, the towns citizen surprised him with on his 25th birthday. Since 2002, Bad Nauheim hosts the annual European Elvis Festival around the 16th of August, the day he died. Then, the rock 'n' roll lifestyle and sounds can be witnessed throughout the entire city! Guests from all over the world celebrate together with well-known bands, movies, art exhibits, Cadillac Corso's and Harley-Parades the enthusiastic revival of the legendary superstar.
