Bad Schandau Overview

Bad Schandau is a spa town in Germany, in the southern Free State of Saxony, district Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge. It is situated on the right bank of the Elbe, at the mouth of the little valley of the Kirnitzsch.

It is about 6 kilometers from the Czech frontier and 33 km southeast of Dresden (Dresden vacation rentals | Dresden travel guide) on the railway to Děčín. The 2009 film, Inglorious Basterds, directed by Quentin Tarantino, was shot primarily in Bad Schandau and at Studio Babelsberg in Berlin (Berlin vacation rentals | Berlin travel guide). The position of Bad Schandau in the heart of the romantic Saxon Switzerland has made it a place of importance, and thousands of tourists make it their headquarters in summer.
