The districts of Charlottenburg and Wilmersdorf belong together. In these districts there are the following attractions: Zoo Station, Kurfürstendamm and Tauentzienstraße, Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, and the radio tower.

Berlin-Wilmersdorf Overview

Wilmersdorf is a neighborhood in western Berlin (Berlin vacation rentals | Berlin travel guide), to the south of Charlottenburg and the west of Schöneberg. The famous Kurfürstendamm Boulevard runs through the neighborhood, Charlottenburg Castle is close by, and both Lake Wannsee and Grunewald Forest, with its 16th century Hunting Lodge (now the home of a famous art museum), are popular nearby recreational destinations. Wilmersdorf is an inner city locality of Berlin, formerly a borough by itself but since Berlin's 2001 administrative reform a part of the new borough of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf. In the north the Kurfürstendamm runs through the area.

Wilmersdorf is on the plateau of the Teltow (Teltow vacation rentals | Teltow travel guide) in the southwest of present-day Berlin. It is bordered in the north by the district of Charlottenburg, on the west by the districts Halensee and Schmargendorf, in the south to the district Steglitz-Zehlendorf district belonging Steglitz and east of the district of Tempelhof-Schöneberg's Ortsteile Friedenau (at the Rheingau district) and Schöneberg.

The village near Berlin (Berlin vacation rentals | Berlin travel guide) was first mentioned in 1293 as Wilmerstorff. From the 1850s on Deutsch-Wilmersdorf was developed as a densely settled, affluent residential area, which in 1920 became a part of Greater Berlin. The former borough of Wilmersdorf included the localities of Halensee, Schmargendorf and Grunewald.
