Bissendorf-Schledehausen Overview

Bissendorf-Schledehausen (formerly Bissendorpe) is part of the Bissendorf municipality in the district of Osnabrück (Osnabrück vacation rentals | Osnabrück travel guide), in Lower Saxony, Germany. It is situated approx. 9 km southeast of Osnabrück. Population of Bissendorf was 14,404 (2005).

Bissendorf is in Osnabrück between Wiehe Mountains and Teutoburg forest. The Hase runs through the township from east to west. More about the History of Bissendorf-Schledehausen (Osnabrück)

Today's community of Bissendorf was created by the merger of Samtgemeinde, Bissendorf-Holte and Schledehausen in the territorial reform in 1972. Bissendorf was first mentioned in writing in 1160. It developed initially in the area around the present-day St. Dionysius Catholic Church settlement, which currently has 2500 inhabitants.

The settlement around the church has survived and is now regarded as one of the finest examples of a church settlement. The church group is Meierhof, vicarage, old school and inn. The church settlement is a historical monument.
