Chieming Overview

Chieming is a municipality in the district of Traunstein (Traunstein vacation rentals | Traunstein travel guide) in Bavaria, Germany.

Chieming located in the Upper South East planning region in the Chiemgau. There exist the following municipal area: Chieming, Hart, Ising, Oberhochstätt. In the south of the village and in the municipal area is the Chieming Pfeffersee.

Things to See in Chieming

Thee parish church of the Assumption is a cross-vaulted hall with a semicircular apse. It was built in 1882-1883 and 1891 to plans by the Munich (Munich vacation rentals | Munich travel guide) architect Johann Marggraff in the Romanesque Revival style. The stilgleiche interior design and mural was designed by architect Joseph Elsner and delivered from his workshop in Munich. The altar painting created in 1885 from Prince Max Reichenhall. The painting with the Sts. Sebastian and George at the Langhaussüdwand is from an old side altar and 1663 by Ruprecht Schweindl signed in Altenmarkt.

The farm dating back to 1875. Thauernhausen is a three-story Einfirsthof with a large bulk soil for the corn on the top floor.

The name Chieming, Chiemsee (Chiemsee vacation rentals | Chiemsee travel guide) and the name of the area Chiemgau go back to the Old High German personal name Chiemo (7./8. century). At the end of the 8th century the name Chiemgau appeared for the first time in documents as Chimigaoe but it stood at that time for a smaller area around the village of Chieming.
