Dierdorf is the seat of the Verbandsgemeinde ("collective municipality") Dierdorf.

Known as the town of best geographical environment, it has traced its origins back to prehistoric times. The first land development in Dierdorf dates back to the year 1100. Dierdorf received municipal rights on 17 June 1357.
