    German Cancer Research Center

    The German Cancer Research Center (known as the Deutsches Krebsforschungszentrum or simply DKFZ in German), is a national cancer research center based in Heidelberg, Germany. It is a member of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres, the largest scientific organization in Germany.

    Cooperation with other partners

    A result of successful cooperation of the German Cancer Research Center with other partners is the first new building for "The National Center for Tumor Diseases" (NCT) in Heidelberg. The project was commissioned by the German Cancer Aid with 29 Million Euro, as it was officially announced at the opening celebration on November 2nd 2010 with Germany’s Minister of Health, Dr. Philipp Roesler (Berlin). The modern new building is located on the campus of Heidelberg University Hospitals.

    The NCT is a joint project of Heidelberg University Hospitals, Thorax Clinic Heidelberg, the German Cancer Research Center (Deutsches Krebsforschungszentrum, DKFZ) and the German Cancer Aid, founded by the late "First Lady", doctor Mildred Scheel. “NCT’s new building offers ideal conditions for translating current research results into clinical practice,” said Professor Dr. Otmar Wiestler, DKFZ’s Scientific Director, at the opening. “Its two strong partners, the German Cancer Research Center and Heidelberg University Hospitals, provide the best basis for this.”

    Weißer Stein

    Weißer Stein is the name of a 548 m (1,798 ft) tall mountain in the Odenwald, north of Heidelberg and east of Dossenheim.

    On Weißer Stein is a 20 m tall lookout tower. It was built in 1906 by the members of the Odenwald club. In good weather other high mountains of the Odenwald can be seen, such as Melibokus, Katzenbuckel, Tromm and Neunkircher Höhe. Near the tower is the Höhengaststätte Weißer Stein tavern with a beer garden.

    Nearby is the 108 m (354 ft) tall broadcast tower of the Deutsche Telekom AG (German telephone company) and an additional antenna mast. The broadcast tower is a type 11.

More about the History of Dossenheim

Dossenheim was first mentioned in the Lorsch codex in 766. 1130 is the first mention of the noble family Wolfsölden-Schauenburg, who ruled the area from the Schauenburg. After this family died out in 1280, the inheritors sold the lands to the electors of the Palatinate of the Rhine of Heidelberg in 1303. As early as 1319, the prince-elector archbishopric of Mainz had won all the rights that the fief of Schaenberg had pawned to the knights of Handschuhsheim. After a long period of rivalry between the Archbishop of Mainz and the Palatinate of the Rhine, until Frederick I conquered the area for the Palatinate and destroyed the Schauenberg.
