Fürstenried Overview

Fürstenried is combined with Thalkirchen, Obersendling, Forstenried, and Solln to make up the 19th borough of Munich (Munich vacation rentals | Munich travel guide), Germany. It comprises the extreme southern part of the city on the left back of the river Isar. After the administrative reform, the boroughs Thalkirchen-Obersendling-Forstenried and Solln were incorporated, thus forming the new borough. It comprises 17.7525 square kilometres and has a population of 79,147 residents (as of 2005).

The district with a relatively well-preserved old village consists mostly of residential areas. The old city center was built around the parish Heilig Kreuz.

The city was the first mentioned in 1166 as Uorstersriet, a combination of the words Uorst for forestry and Ried (Ried vacation rentals | Ried travel guide) for grubbing. Fürstenried was incorporated with Munich (Munich vacation rentals | Munich travel guide) in January 1912.
