Hello, Holiday in Rhineland-Palatinate are over and now it works going again, because we were on vacation. So Großmaischeid ansich has no direct Reisehiglights. The place has a converted water tower, in which there are certain dates events is being. Otherwise, only a very small museum, which is barely open. Around Großmaischeid is a lot of forests, stimulates what to migrate and there are some nice hiking trails, among others Westerwald-Steig, Rheinsteig use .. Großmaischeid is interesting from its location because it is centrally located to the highway A3, you do not hear. Here it is very quiet and the next beautiful sightseeing points are "down the hill" direction Koblenz and although the ruins of Isenburg (place Isenburg), the butterfly park in Bendorf-Sayn, Ehrenbreitstein, Deutsches Eck and the old town of Koblenz. Continue along the Rhine to the small wine village with some very beautiful castles, the Loreley rock and Rudesheim am Rhein and here the gondola high above the vineyards. From Koblenz can you do with boats a beautiful trip. This came with our guests so far very good. The same it is along the Mosel. Should any information be needed, please notify us. LG Claudia Lange

More about the History of Grossmaischeid

First settlements in Großmaischeid date back to the late Bronze Age (1550 - 1200 BC). The roman border fortification 'Limes' was erected around 80AD in the vicinity of Großmaischeid. The town was first mentioned in an official document issued by pope Eugen III which dates back to the 20. January 1148. Its name is most probably derived from 'Metsched's place', referring to a medieval local nobleman. It is assumed that the town as such was a planned settlement around the time of Charles the Great in order to stop the Saxon's extension to the western country side of Germany in the early 9th century.
