It lies in a steep slope and was called at the beginning of the 19th Century Hangnau.
Hagnau's history is inextricably linked with the wine. The place is known for its extensive wine-growing regions. The winegrowers' cooperative, the vintners association Hagnau, is the oldest in swimming and the largest on Lake Constance, both for members (110 winemakers from 60 Winegrower families) as well as vineyard acres (145 hectares). Meanwhile, many winemakers with tourism a second pillar is created. Hagnau was first mentioned on 24 January 1152 in a charter of Pope Eugene III. For centuries it belonged to the Benedictine Abbey of Weingarten, and was finally secularized in 1803.
