Herrsching Overview

Herrsching am Ammersee is a municipality in Upper Bavaria, Germany, on the east shore of the Ammersee, southwest of Munich (Munich vacation rentals | Munich travel guide). Situated at one terminus of the Munich S-bahn line S5, the village is popular with travelers for its watersports and as the starting point of trips to the Benedictine Andechs (Andechs vacation rentals | Andechs travel guide) Abbey. Herrsching is also a stop for touring steamships of the Bavarian Seenschiffahrt or lake fleet. Population is some 8,000 in winter, increasing to 13,00 in summer.

I have been to Herrsching am Ammersee and it is lovely. take a trip on the lake or go to Kloster Andechs for the most magnificent beer and Schweinhaxe! Only an hour from Munich.

When in Munich take a day trip to Kloster Andechs (S5 to Herrsching). The monastery brews it's own and the Schweinhaxe are to die for! When you are in Herrsching you may also want to take a boat trip on the lake. A lovely day out!

More about the History of Herrsching

In 776 Herrsching is first authenticated with a gift of the noble family of Huosi Schlehdorf to the monastery. Until the 19th Century, Herrsching remained a fishing and farming village, then it started to become a tourist destination.
