Homburg is the county town of Saarpfalz circle in the Saarland with 44,000 inhabitants. It is the third largest city in the Saarland, situated in the foothills of the Palatinate Forest.

- The High Castle was the 12th century seat of the counts of Homburg and in 1330, city rights were granted by the Ludwig of Bavaria at the foot of the Schlossberg. After the death of the last Count von Homburg in the year 1449 the castle and the city fell to the Counts of Nassau-Saarbrücken. This built in the second half of the 16th century.

Homburg is through the Federal Highways 6 (Saarbrücken - Waidhaus) and 8 (Perl (Mosel) - Bad Reichenhall), and the federal 423 (from the German-French border at Mandelbachtal - Altenglan) to the national road network connections. The main Homburg (Saar) was until 2007 the system fit for the ICE-trains to Frankfurt, Dresden and Northern Germany as well as EC / IC-trains to Paris, Frankfurt, Stuttgart and Salzburg. With the introduction of the continuous traffic ICE Frankfurt and Paris lost all Homburg ICE hold on to the connection to Dresden; protests of the passengers were the result.

More about the History of Homburg
First settlements already existed in Roman times in today's District Black Acker as an important station on two intersecting highways (Metz - Mainz and Trier - Strasbourg). This interpretation, however, is controversial today, especially after Münzfunden in the area. Between 1778 and 1788 Duke Karl II Augustus of Pfalz-Zweibrücken on the book near Homburg Schloss Karlsberg (hist spelling Carlsberg) erect. In July 1793, this castle was destroyed by French Revolution troops. Parts of its inhabitants fled into the nearby village Neumühle.
