Anholt Moated Castle

Anholt moated castle in the western part of Münsterland is one of Germany's few privately owned castles. The fat tower
dating from the 12th century is still a characteristic feature of the castle, which was originally built on oak pillars with stone foundations and was later turned into a baroque residence in the 14th century. Today, the moated castle is used as a museum set up by Prince Nickolaus of Salm-Salm (1906-1988), where visitors can admire a private collection of art.
Visitors today can admire the different areas of the expansive park and garden, such as the water garden, the island, the maze and the wild flower meadow. With its rich variety of plants and trees, many footpaths and expanses of water, Anholt moated castle is the perfect excursion destination.
Hours: Summer (May 1 to September 30), daily except Mondays, 11am to 5pm. Winter (October 1 to April 30), Sundays, 1pm to 5pm, or by arrangement.
Admission: Adults 8 €, Concessions 3 € (admits to both park and museum.)
