Leimen's 1200 years of winemaking tradition is well known. Many tourists visit therefore, the fascinating vineyards. This great nature experience is unique and also very intresting. Not only that, the French tower is a wall remaining many years of the former city before mounting. Today, the French tower is the landmark of the city. In addition, sizing is near Heidelberg, at a well-known central location. So much fun researching. Best regards

Now, Leimen is about 9 km from Heidelberg. The tram takes you right to Heidelberg or by car in 10 minutes. Heidelberg offers much. Historic Cable Car, Old Town, hiking trails, river trips and museums. Schwetzingen, also only 10 km has a park with castle. Speyer about 20 miles away with cathedral, museum and historic towns. Between glues and Nussloch is a still active quarry. There is a Besicherpfad. Mannheim with Luis Park is also worth seeing. Waterparks in de nearby Umgbung, as well as hikes in the Odenwald Palatinate and complete the whole. There are also many ausgbaute biking trails.

Leimen Overview

Leimen is a town in north-west Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It is about 7 km (5 miles) south of Heidelberg (Heidelberg vacation rentals | Heidelberg travel guide) and the third largest town of the Rhein-Neckar district after Weinheim (Weinheim vacation rentals | Weinheim travel guide) and Sinsheim (Sinsheim vacation rentals | Sinsheim travel guide). It is also the area's industrial centre. Leimen is located on the Bergstraße (Mountain Road] and on the Bertha Benz Memorial Route.

Leimen consists of the Leimen (proper), nowadays called "Leimen (Mitte)", and the four boroughs Gauangelloch, Lingental, Ochsenbach and Sankt Ilgen. Despite its industrial roots, Leimen's downtown has maintained a certain quaintness. It is an active town, with a regular cycle of festivals and activities.

More about the History of Leimen

In the context of a communal reform in the 1970s, Leimen was newly created from the villages Leimen, Gauangelloch and Sankt Ilgen. In 1981, the state government of Baden-Württemberg granted Leimen the privilege to be called "town." When Leimen's population exceeded 20,000 in 1990, the city council applied for elevation to a Große Kreisstadt which was granted by the state government on April 1, 1992.
