At the entrance of Leiwen there is a boat landing. Currently shipping is up to and including June 16, 2015 only to a limited extent, of Leiwen go no ships at this time, possibly a round trip in Bernkastel-Kues is possible. The wine festival takes place in September from Friday 4th until Sunday 6th September 2015, it is a street wine festival, location: Roman road, Leiwen. There is therefore a big wine festival 17th in Leiwen in August from Friday 14th until Monday August 2015 with a big wine tasting evening on Monday, location: large tent at festival ground in Leiwen

Excursions: Trier, Bernkastel, Luxembourg, Idar Oberstein, Saar castle everything at a distance of 40 km. Cycling along the Moselle on the bike paths. In Leiwen and in the surrounding villages there are many wine festivals, every weekend in a different place. You are welcome to go to our homepage, where I listed some dates. Bicycle tours: one can of Leiwen direction or direction Trier Bernkastel-Kues, both about 30 km. Excursions ask best check with the tourist information, so you can take boat trips to Bernkastel or bus trips to Trier, in the Eifel, book by Luxembourg or to the Rhine. Trier is particularly sehenswwert and guests should not verpassen.Wanderungen to good vantage points are also possible. The euro stand in Leiwen but also has a lot of information. Wine Festivals: September 1 weekend: wine festival in the Middle Mosel in known Moselle Bernkastel-Kues (about 30 km from Leiwen) with a large parade on Sunday, street wine festival in Leiwen September 2nd weekend: wine farms hard in Thörnich (about 3 km from Leiwen) September 3rd weekend : Saturday evening festival of theater club Köwerich in the youth center Köwerich (1.5 km from LEIWEN, Euro beach) Feller market in fur (about 15 km from Leiwen) September 4th weekend: wine street party in Neumagen-Dhron (about 7 km from Leiwen) Bike Tours: Bike Tour to Bernkastel-Kues (possibly part of the way by boat, bicycles available, or with the cyclo-bus, it has a bike trailer and is marked with RR = regio cyclists in the timetable bike ride to Schweich on Detzem (barrage. ), Riol (See Triolago) Tip: come in Schweich into known ice cream parlor opposite Edeka go When cycling within about 10 km of Leiwen when possible on the Mosel side of Leiwen by bike, as there is a separate and better bike path. excursions: Trier, Bernkastel-Kues, Volcanic Eifel, Idar-Oberstein, Saar loop, Luxembourg. Unless the Euro beach also organizes guided tours by bus for single guests or small group booked through Feuerer Travel, Bernkastel-Kues (the bus company will also bring guests in Leiwen from the bus tours). We would suggest absolutely Trier, the oldest city in Germany to visit with guided tour should be booked in advance. Bernkastel-Kues is a must about 25 km from Leiwen. If not too far of course Cochem on the Mosel over 120 km on the A48 about 65 Km gem city Idar-Oberstein with a visit with a gemstone and visit the Church of the Rock. Visit of Luxembourg with city leadership can with Bußunternehmen Feuerer Bernkastel erfolgen- A gro0e or small tour on the Mosel can be done by Leiwen from. Of course, a visit to a winery with wine tasting at the winery with explanations about wine

Leiwen Overview

Leiwen is a municipality in the Trier-Saarburg district, in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. It is within a ten mile radius of the city of Trier (Trier vacation rentals | Trier travel guide). Leiwen is one of the most significant wine growing municipalties on the Moselle river. The village is located on the banks of the river Moselle.

The village is situated in the middle of vast grapevines, and is in one of the main wine growing areas of Germany. The village produces wine made from the Riesling grape variety. The village holds a wine festival every year, which is a big draw for tourists. Leiwen on the Mosel is a nationally recognized resort in the municipality at the Schweich Roman Weinstrasse in Landkreis Trier-Saarburg in Rhineland-Palatinate (Germany).

Things to See in Leiwen

Timbered Leiwen, (Zehnthof) was built around 1484 in the immediate vicinity of the Moselle. Until 1999, the half-timbered house was inhabited, but now stands empty.

Jüdischer Friedhof- the cemetery of the former Jewish community of Leiwen (1592-1938) and Klüsserath. The cemetery is a reminder of the former Jewish community of Leiwen which was a victim of Nazi tyranny.

Catholic parish church of St. Stephen, built around 1500. In the crypt are the remains of a Gothic originalerhaltene paintings from the 16th century.

Euchariuskapelle, now the home and wine museum, built in 1656, feature archaeological finds from past eras.

The big wine festival and the procession with the public will find wine tasting on the third weekend in August instead.

The village of Leiwen is said to have got its name from Livia, the wife of emperor Augustus, who had a summer residence in the village, and she gave her name to the village. There have been several excavations in the village, unearthing buildings and artefacts dating back to Roman times.
