Markgröningen Overview

Markgröningen is a town in the district (Kreis) of Ludwigsburg (Ludwigsburg vacation rentals | Ludwigsburg travel guide), Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It is located about 16 km northwest of Stuttgart (Stuttgart vacation rentals | Stuttgart travel guide), and 8 km west of Ludwigsburg.

Markgröningen lies in Strohgäu at the Glems 10 kilometers west of Ludwigsburg and approximately 15 kilometers northwest of Stuttgart. The city's coat of arms shows blue shield principal, is sechsstrahlige five gold stars next to each other in a red gold bezungten black eagle. The eagle refers to the former status as an imperial city Markgröningen out and published since 1299 in the city seals. The sign came later as a principal distinguishing marks of another kingdom cities. The city flag has been the 18th Century blue-yellow.

More about the History of Markgröningen

Markgröningen (or Gröningen as its residents call it) was first mentioned in a land deed to the monastery of Fulda (Fulda vacation rentals | Fulda travel guide) in 779. During its eventful history it could far away receive its medieval townscape with numerous historical and art-historically important buildings. Visitors quickly notice this city's examples of the German architectural style, called, "Fachtwerk". Around 1243 the settlement was raised to the city.

Until 1806, the city was under Württemberg rule with that resident local aristocracy divided in each case, until it turned on the kingdom.
