More about the History of Meckenbeuren
The village itself was first established in 1496 mentioned, but was first recorded in a document of the monastery of St. Gall by resident settlers named MEGI in 879. Whether the name Meckenbeuren can be attributed to this is controversial. Probably from 1094 the area belonged to the monastery of Weingarten. Under Napoleon the town fell to Bavaria in 1806. A key growth spurt brought the community connection to the railway line Stuttgart (Stuttgart vacation rentals | Stuttgart travel guide) - Friedrichshafen (Friedrichshafen vacation rentals | Friedrichshafen travel guide) in 1847. The now disused railway line Meckenbeuren-Tettnang 1895 was the first electrically operated Vollbahn Germany. The city was then given its independent municipality in 1972
