Landestrost Castle (German: Schloss Landestrost) is a castle in the Weser renaissance style that was built between 1573-84 in Neustadt am Rübenberge in the north German state of Lower Saxony. Integrated into fortifications, together with the town, it developed into an urban fortress typical of the 16th century. Neustadt am Rübenberge Overview:

Neustadt am Rübenberge is a lovely town in Northern Germany and a preferred holiday destination for many families. There is only one word that sums up the many reasons why this town is so popular with national and international tourists: diversity.

At 357 km², it is the 6th largest settlement in Germany by area (following Berlin (Berlin vacation rentals | Berlin travel guide), Hamburg (Hamburg vacation rentals | Hamburg travel guide) and Köln), though only about 45,000 inhabitants live there. The town is in a region known as the Hanoverian Moor Geest.

Neustadt am Rübenberge might be a cozy small town but the landscape around it just screams of excitement and adventure. Vast moorlands and forests surround the town. When it is really hot in the summer, most tourists spend their days in the Steinhuder Meer Nature Park, which is just outside town. The park contains Germany’s largest inland lake, where people can swim, go sailing or surfing.
