"Will we be able to take a tour of the Oldendorf castle? Is it open all days? How much does it cost?" (posted 03/23/2014)

I am willing to help you in this matter. First, however, we have to clarify which castle the traveler would like to visit, as there are three in Oldendorf: Hollwinkel Castle, castle and manor Hüffe and Knight's Estate Engershausen. All castles are privately owned and tours for groups are being offered. The tourism information in Oldendorf was not able to furnish me with dates about the weekdays / times and costs, so they should be inquired about with the castle's owners. This also applies to the question of whether tours for an individual can be arranged. Castle Hollwinkel: 0049-5743-8771 Castle Hüffe: 0049-5742-1222 Gross Engershausen: 0049-5742-920636 There is a calendar of events for Gross Engershausen. If you wish, I can obtain further information. But the holiday-maker should first decide which castle he/she wants to visit.

Even though we live nearby, I have to confess that I had never heard of these castles, but they do exist. That's why I can only help with these links: http://www.preussischoldendorf.de/index.phtml?NavID=391.329&La=1 http://www.preussischoldendorf.de/index.phtml?NavID=391.330&La=1 http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schloss_Hollwinkel In Preußisch Oldendorf there are three castles: Hollwinkel Castle, Castle Hüffe and the castle Limberg. It is my understanding that all are privately owned. Possibly, guided tours can be organized via the Tourist Information: * Touristik-Preußisch Oldendorf * Hudenbeck 2 32361 Preußisch Oldendorf Phone: 0 57 42/70 37 94 Fax 0 57 42/9224840 touristik@preussischoldendorf.de e-mail to the tourism office http://www.preussischoldendorf.de

There is the town called Preussisch Oldendorf, but the castle nearby is named Hollwinkel and lies in Hedem. Opening hours are Mo-Fr. 9:00 to 11:30 and 2:30 to 4:30 pm. Prices were not given. Although it is not as well known, do Americans want to go there? The nearby Ippenburg Castle and Castle Bückeburg, the latter belonging to one of the richest princes in Germany and containing its own riding school, would seem much more interesting . Moreover, there are several other castles in the area, e.g. in Detmold or Schloss Holte etc. and castles on the crest of the Weser mountain with wonderful views of the Weser valley.

Unfortunately is it not possible to visit the Hollwinkel castle in Preußisch Oldendorf. It has a private owner. We can advise you to visit the Biickeburg castle in Biickeburg (Schaumburg-Lippe), which is very beautiful and interesting. It is open every day and there are guided tours. They also have the "Riding School" which you can visit.
