Rabenau is a town in the Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge district, in the Free State of Saxony, Germany. It is situated 8 km north of Dippoldiswalde, and 12 km southwest of Dresden (Dresden vacation rentals | Dresden travel guide).
Rabenau is located on an exposed south slope of the mountain. The highest points of the city are in the western part (352 m) with the tower and the water tower and the high school. The Läusewiesen is hardly cultivated because of its severe slope. The lowest point of the village is the mill on the Rabenauer.

The area around Rabenau have been inhabited since the 12th century and makes for a perfect fortress because of its position on the hill. This however also had negative effects on its agriculture.
