Reichenberg Overview

Reichenberg is a municipality in the Rhein-Lahn-Kreis in Rhineland-Palatinate (Germany)

Reichenberg is located near the Loreley 2 km away from the Rhine. The place is situated in a valley around the castle. The three hares Brooks Bach (Bach Bogeler), Hainer Reitz creek and forest creek cut through the district. The southern part of the district is gently undulating field corridor at an altitude of 270m to 320m above sea level.

Things to See in Reichenberg

Burg Reichenberg-In a document dated 10 August 1319, it allowed the Archbishop of Trier (Trier vacation rentals | Trier travel guide) Baldewin the Katzenelnbogen Count Wilhelm I to construct a castle on the hill Richenberch. The castle served as Wegsicherung by the earlier Katzenelnbogner Rheinfels (1245) in the county. By the early death of Count William I and the division of the Treaty of 1352 never reached the castle which was originally planned size.

Already in the first phase of construction of the castle, there was already a chapel space into the enlarged shield wall. At the present site in 1380 the church was built under Wilhelm II. Already in 1538 the church was the property of the Protestant church on, but ended the ownership of the external walls. During the 30-year war, the church was almost completely destroyed. From 1737-1738, the city reached another ordinary state, a plaque with Latin inscription announcing today from this renovation.

First mentioned in 1319 in connection with the building permit for the Castle. Talsiedlung of craftsmen and laborers Tagelöhnern. Verleihung der Stadtrechte 1324. Philip I the Elder of the last Count of Katzenelnbogen died in July 1479. Reichenberg falls, therefore, to the Landgrave of Hesse.
