More about the History of Sankt Ingbert

The city is named for the legendary hermit Ingbert and was first mentioned in 888 as Lendelfingen. Only after the Thrity Years' War did the city convert its name to Sankt Ingbert. The town expanded because of its industrial advances as well as its strong ties to religion. More recently, the town has had a decline in population because of its population threshold.

Sankt Ingbert (also St. Ingbert) is a town in the Saarpfalz district, in Saarland, Germany. It is situated approximately 10 km north-east of Saarbrücken, and 10 km south-west of Neunkirchen and has a population of 38,659. Sankt Ingbert is an old industrial town, but most of its heavy industries (coal, steel, glass) have closed. Major employers now include software company SAP AG and Festo automation technologies.
