St. Märgen lies right in the Black Forest in an enchanting landscape. The view of the forest panorama with its lush green hills and valleys and the satisfied cows grazing there alone is worth the trip. If you are looking for rest and relaxation, St. Märgen is just the spot for you. The unique landscape offers manifold opportunities for great walks, hikes and bicycle tours. In St. Märgen, I would recommend these sights: - baroque monastery church St. Maria Himmelfahrt (Mary’s Ascension) and the monastery museum featuring works of the renowned monastery sculptor Matthias Faller, an exhibition documenting the famous Black Forest clocks and various other works of note. Don’t miss the magnificent monastery garden - Rankmühle in St. Märgen - Danielhofmühle, still operated in the traditional Black Forest way St. Märgen is also a great starting point for excursions. My top recommendation is the Schluchsee lake, which is not as busy and touristy as the better-known Titisee. A trip to the Triberg waterfalls and the famous Schwarzwälder Hirschsprung, as well as a stroll through the historic old town of Freiburg should not be missed.
