I loved it here and the boat ride to St Bartholoma was fun. Nice clean water and fresh air. Got many great photo's from the trails along the lake. A must see while in Germany! Was there one year when they brought the cows down out of the hills...all decorated!

Plan to spend a lovely afternoon here. Feed the ducks on the edges of the lake. Enjoy the boat ride to the island. Hike up the mountainside, and visit the little museum there. This place is well worth the visit. Refreshing.

It would be a real treat to hear the 7 echos from the flugelhorn on the way there. Doesn't happen that often. Beautiful none the less.

I wish I was there for Christmas. I can just envision that cold boat ride across the lake...huddling down together in the wind, and keeping warm and singing together in German on the way over. What joy.

St. Bartholomew's Church at Lake Königssee

[ source: Wikipedia ]

This small pilgrimage church is one of the most visited places in the Berchtesgadener Land region. Built on a spit of land beneath the famous east face of the Watzmann massif, it is set in one of the most beautiful lake districts in Bavaria. Today, most visitors or pilgrims approach this architectural jewel by taking one of the almost silent Lake Königssee electric motor boats across the lake. Originally built in a Gothic style, the church was enlarged in the 16th and 17th centuries. Modelled on Salzburg Cathedral, the church gained a cloverleaf-shaped layout and its current baroque appearance. Both small towers, one octagonal and one round, were constructed later, and together with the five cupolas on the roof they give the church an extremely picturesque appearance. The interior of the church is dominated by a baroque high altar upon which is a representation of St. Bartholomew, patron saint of herdsmen and fishermen.
