Kürbisfest in Retzer Land

The Lower Austrian wine district surrounds Vienna and has several regions. The best known of these is the Retzer Land (named after the town of Retz) with the communities Pulkau, Schrattenthal, and Zellerndorf. This region is one of the best wine regions of Austria as well as the pumpkin gourmet region. Each year on the last weekend in October, 30,000 people come to enjoy the largest Austrian pumpkin festival.

On the last weekend in September in Retz is the annual grape harvest festival with many attractions (eg running out of the two city fountain in the main square instead of water, wine - which may be drunk free).

Some of the main attractions in Retz are: the adventure cellar (the largest wine cellars in Central Europe with 22 km underground passages), working windmill in Austria, the monastery, the main square with parts of the old trade route between Vienna and Prague, Grafity trading house, as well as parts of the old city wall.
