I can’t really give you any good reason to visit Schwaigern. Perhaps the proximity (43 km) to the state capital, Stuttgart. But that would be it.

The historic wine town Schwaigern with about 6000 inhabitants consists of the core city Schwaigern, as well as the districts Massenbach, Niederhofen and Stetten am Heuchelberg. In the 19th and 20th century, several large fires destroyed large parts of the medieval city center. Today, worth seeing are the witches tower with Reinwaldsches house, the Historical Rentamt, the Old City winepress of 1659 and a building lot in downtown. Viticulture in Schwaigern is first mentioned in the year 799. The main grape varieties grown are Trollinger, Riesling, Lemberger and Pinot Meunier. The Heuchelberg winery has its headquarters in Schwaigern, it is the fourth largest winery in Baden-Württemberg. The winery Graf von Neipperg is especially well known, too. All the wine-growing locations in all parts of the city belong to the Heuchelberg terroir in the Württemberg wine region. Of course, wine plays an important role among the gastronomic offerings. The Leintalzoo is an animal park in Schwaigern, which specializes in keeping monkeys. Since July 2005, Schwaigern is home to a Friedwald, a forest cemetery; it is the first of its kind in Baden-Württemberg. After two years, over 400 people have already been buried there, and over 1000 contracts for burials here have been signed.
