More about the History of Schweich an der Römischen Weinstrasse

Schweich was first mentioned in 721 as Sarainga: the Frankish noblewoman Bertrada and her son Charibert of them gave the newly founded monastery of Prüm a courtyard at the Mosel.

On the remains of a Roman villa of Niederprümer Court was built, which served as the Prüm Abbey Headquarters. The restored building from 1706 is now a cultural center housed. At the town's landmark, the medieval ferry tower at the harbor, was one of the main street of the medieval Fährübergänge the Moselle Trier - Koblenz. North of the town is the station of Schweich, which was published in 1878 set up the connection to the railway line Trier, Wittlich.

In the Electorate of Trier time Schweich belonged to the seat of a Schultheißerei to Pfalzel Office. On 7 June 1969 was amalgamated the previously separate municipality Issel. The city rights were granted on 30 May 1984.
