Seeon Overview

Seeon is a place and a monastery of Benedictine monks in the northern district of Traunstein (Traunstein vacation rentals | Traunstein travel guide), now part of the community Seeon-Seebruck.

Seeon (formerly Niederseeon) is located on the eastern shore of Lake Seeoner. It has about 1,000 inhabitants and is embedded in the politically unified community Seeon-Seebruck, which formed in 1980 from the three formerly independent communities Seeon, Seebruck (Seebruck vacation rentals | Seebruck travel guide) and Truchtlaching (Truchtlaching vacation rentals | Truchtlaching travel guide). The unit community has a total of about 4000 inhabitants. In addition to the cultural and educational center in the district of Upper Bavaria in Seeon have small and medium businesses located. More about the History of Seeon

In Seeon, archeologists found some traces of Roman occupation. The city was first documented in 924 as Place Seeon. The monastery was founded in 994 by the Palatine Aribo, Benedictines of St. Emmeram from Regensburg (Regensburg vacation rentals | Regensburg travel guide). Also, the first cell of the Benedictine Abbey Church of St. Lambert was built this year. The monastery is located on an island in Klostersee.
