Treis-Karden is a municipality in the district Cochem-Zell, in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. It is situated on the river Mosel, approx. 10 km east of Cochem (Cochem vacation rentals | Cochem travel guide) and 30 km south-west of Koblenz (Koblenz vacation rentals | Koblenz travel guide).
Treis-Karden is the seat of Verbandsgemeinde. The local council in Treis-carding consists of 16 Council members who were elected on 7 June 2009, and the volunteer Ortsbürgermeister as chairman.
Things to See in Treis-Karden
The former collegiate church of St. Castor in carding machines (originally a Romanesque building) is considered
Moseldom. A pen museum recalls the glorious past of the town.
Bemerkswert is the ensemble of Romanesque buildings of the abbey district with the so-called

Already in the 4th Century was when the sacred Castor in cardoon (
vicus cardena), a Christian community was founded. His remains arrived in the 9th Century, mostly in the Kastorkirche of Koblenz (Koblenz vacation rentals | Koblenz travel guide). The place was in the ancient and medieval times of great importance. Carding was the center of a archdeaconry. The pastor of the pin was in personal union of the five archdeacons of the Archdiocese of Trier (Trier vacation rentals | Trier travel guide).
Treis was the capital of Trechirgaus. The extinction of Gaugrafen (Berthold / Bezeline) at the end of the 11th Century led to a series of clashes. Thus, the counts of Salm / Rheineck Treis tried to bring to surrounding areas under their control. As early as 1121 Henry V destroyed the castle, help to Palatine Gottfried von Calw (Calw vacation rentals | Calw travel guide) too. Apparently Otto had built the castle of Salm newly sown. In the fight of Rheineck Otto II (son of Otto von Salm) with Hermann von Stahleck to the Rhineland Palatinate. Treis finally fell under the domination of the Electorate of Trier, and remained there until the end of the 18th Century (for further acquisitions of 1197 and 1294).
From 1794 both towns were under French rule. In 1814 they were assigned to the Congress of Vienna to the Kingdom of Prussia. Since 1947, both towns are part of the newly founded state of Rhineland-Palatinate. On 7 June 1969 was formed from the two communities of the town of Treis-carding.
