Volkach is a city in Franconia in Landkreis Kitzingen and seat of the administrative community Volkach. The city on the Main is located in the main Franconian wine-growing region.

Things to See in Volkach
Volkach's main tourist attraction is its annual wine festival. Volkach's wine festival ("weinfest" in German) is the culminating festival for the entire Franken wine region - this means that all of the smaller towns hold their festivals first and select their wine princesses. At the Volkach wine festival a wine princess is selected to represent the entire Franken region - her picture even appears on the wine bottles for that year. The festival will be held this year from August 14-19, 2008 and is marking its 60th anniversary.
The 14th Century pilgrimage church, built in Maria Weingarten has arisen with the 1521-1524 Maria rosary in one of the most important wood sculptures Tilman Riemenschneider.

More about the History of Volkach
The Frankish king gave the town the 906 Monastery of Fulda (Fulda vacation rentals | Fulda travel guide). The high pin Würzburg (Würzburg vacation rentals | Würzburg travel guide) acquired parts of the city Volkach in 1328. The city was awarded its rights in 1398, minted coins in 1406, the legal market and the blood jurisdiction. Due to the territorial reform in 1972, ten villages were incorporated and moved from Volkach Gerolzhofen county to county Kitzingen (Kitzingen vacation rentals | Kitzingen travel guide). The town was established in 1986 with the deployment of a pioneer battalion Garrison Army. The Main Loop Railway was reactivated in September 2003. It commutes May to October between Volkach / Astheimer and Seligenstadt (Seligenstadt vacation rentals | Seligenstadt travel guide).
