Franconia--Boutique, Fairy Tale, and Wine Region

[ source: Wikipedia ]

Perched on a veranda overlooking the magnificent Tauber Valley and undulating lush green vineyards carpeting the countryside, we had arrived in Franconia, southern Germany’s exclusively boutique, fairy tale wine region. Stefan our host from the Mittermeier Vineyards poured us another bouquet, a Tauberhase 2006 South African Shiraz-Cabernet Sauvignon and a unique 2008 Tauberschwarz Franken Trocken (dry) number. The traditional local country (Kases) cheeses heralded an unforgettable experience. [ + ] learn more

The-Military Concierge Company's Guide to Oktoberfest

The-Military Concierge Company's Guide to Oktoberfest

[ source: Wikipedia ]

If you’re unfamiliar with the concept of Oktoberfest, here’s a quick overview: Between September 18 and October 3 2010, all of the major names in the German beer scene set up massive tents filled with long tables and decorated in a traditional Bavarian style. In order to get a seat in a tent, it’s important that you buy tickets in advance. It is sometimes possible to get in without a ticket, if you’re very patient (or very pushy!) or generously tip the doorman, but it’s extremely hard to get through the crowds and into a beer tent without considerable advance planning. Travel back in time…. to Essing

Travel back in time…. to Essing

Coming to Essing makes you feel like traveling back in time. This very small town with less than 1000 citizens in lower Bavaria is located in a valley and surrounded by steep mountains and rivers. Lovely half—timbered houses and blooming gardens everywhere complete this idyllic scene of old—fashioned Bavaria. Essing is a hidden place, where you have the chance to spend a peaceful vacation but also can be very active. The surrounding mountains are great for hiking, the rivers are very popular with fishermen and many sights and interesting bigger cities are only a car ride away. [ + ] learn more

Youtube funniest Berlin videos

Youtube funniest Berlin videos

[ source: Flickr ]

Berlin is known to be quite an alternative city- it is after all the Mecca for electronic, techno and dance music. Because the locals have been suppressed in the years before the wall fell, it is only natural that they would be so incredibly open-minded people. I gathered from YouTube some of the freakiest, funniest and wackiest videos - all made in Berlin either by locals or by tourist. Check out the bizarre video with the extremely strange looking boy who lips syncing the: ”From Paris to Berlin” song… a bit scary I must say!!! [ + ] learn more

Veitshöchheim – Architectural and Culinary Delights

Veitshöchheim – Architectural and Culinary Delights

Veitshöchheim is a picture—perfect small town just five miles northwest of Würzburg. Its great location right at the river Main and amidst wonderful Bavarian countryside, quaint historic buildings, an impressive Catholic church as well as several chapels, more than 20 eateries and, most impressive of all, the Veitshöchheim Palace make this town so special and certainly worth a visit. And, best of all, because of its relatively small size and closeness to Würzburg, a popular holiday destination for fans of historic towns with a Baroque flair to them, Veitshöchheim has managed to stay under the radar and is still a hidden gem. Here you have the chance to completely relax for a couple of days, undisturbed by fellow tourists, and really absorb German culture. [ + ] learn more

In the steps of Sisi…

In the steps of Sisi…

[ source: Wikipedia ]

Possenhofen is a tiny district of the municipality Pöcking in Starnberg and home to not even 400 citizens. Nevertheless, this picturesque place is a "pilgrimage site" for Sisi fans from all over the world. Elizabeth of Bavaria, the later Empress of Austria and Queen of Hungary, also known as Sisi, spent her childhood and youth here — the only happy time in her otherwise tragic life. [ + ] learn more
