Bad Berleburg is a small town in the West of Germany that has surprisingly much to offer. This municipality consists of 23 incorporated villages with not even 20,000 inhabitants. Nevertheless, there are more than 200 clubs and associations in this area, that all contribute to an extensive number of leisure activities to choose from. Bad Berleburg (Bad Berleburg vacation rentals | Bad Berleburg travel guide) lies in the middle of the Rothaargebirge, a beautiful low mountain range in North Rhine—Westphalia, which makes this town a great destination for families with children who want to go hiking, biking or inline skating and just enjoy the spectacular German countryside. But there are also many things to do for people who are interested in culture and the arts.

Bad Berleburg is an ideal starting point if you want to explore the Rothaargebirge and go on long hikes through deep forests and blooming meadows. When you come back from your trips and still have some energy left, there are a lot of different sports that can be done. The town has as many as three horse ranches, a golf course, tennis courts, various exciting playgrounds for children and even ski slopes for the wintertime.

For most children and teens the local water park, the Rothaarbad, is a popular hangout. This water park consists of an indoor pool and a large outdoor pool that generates artificial waves. Additionally there are several jacuzzis, a sauna, a steam bath, a baby pool, relaxation areas, a bar and a restaurant. The Rothaarbad certainly is a place, you can have fun in for hours or even send your kids to on their own if the parents want to a enjoy a quiet day just by themselves.

An architectural highlight of the town is Schloss Berleburg, which was built in 1733. This lovely chalet houses a local history museum and is open to visitors almost all year round.

One of the biggest associations in Bad Berleburg is the so—called Kulturgemeinde, which constantly organizes musical concerts and theatre productions in various locations all over town. Most beloved are the classical concerts in the garden of Schloss Berleburg, which is a highly romantic setting for a leisurely night of wonderful music. Another highlight of the cultural calendar in this town is the wool market, which takes place on the first Sunday in May every year. It is a fair where you can buy everything that is made out of wool you could ever imagine. Like in any German town, also in Bad Berleburg a marksmanship festival is celebrated every July. Additionally, during the summer there are many other smaller festivals in the various villages around.

If you would like to experience these typical German street fairs, you should certainly visit Bad Berleburg in the summer. However, there are also many restaurants and pubs where you can enjoy great food and entertainment all year round. Most popular with the locals are Metzgerei Müller and Metzgerei Merte, which are butcher shops and restaurants at the same time. Here you get delicious and healthy local food at very low prices. Of course, there is also a bakery, several supermarkets and even a Chinese and a Greek restaurant in town.

Picturesque landscapes, various sport facilities, a cultural calendar packed with fun events, delicious food and lovely people — Bad Berleburg has much more to offer than one might think judging from its size. This all makes this town a fantastic holiday spot for active families.
