Berlin Marathon – a Race through Germany’s Buzzing Capital

On the 25th and 26th of September in 2010 the Berlin (Berlin vacation rentals | Berlin travel guide) Marathon will take place for the 37th time. This spectacular sporting event in Europe’s most exciting city is known as the fastest and toughest marathon worldwide. More than 40,000 professional athletes and amateur runners from over 100 nations are expected to take part in this exciting race. Additionally a skater marathon takes place, which is, with about 8,000 participants, considered the largest inline marathon in the world.
The more than 36 miles long course starts and finishes at the capital’s landmark, the Brandenburger Gate, and leads in a giant loop through the whole city and along its most important sights, such as the Siegessäule or the Reichstag. What makes the Berlin Marathon so popular with runners is that it is known for its mild autumn temperatures and flat, low—altitude course. With usually more than one million cheering visitors, the marathon is also famous for its fun and joyful atmosphere.
The Berlin Marathon is not only worth a visit for ambitious sportsmen and on—lookers. The first day of the marathon traditionally starts with the Breakfast Run, which is more of a social than a sporting event. The course in this fun race is only six miles long and ends at the Olympic Stadium, where all participants get together to enjoy a hearty breakfast.
