Germany has many historic small towns, which are listed in every travel guide despite their size, because they are just so lovely or you can find amazing sights there. Bornheim (Bornheim vacation rentals | Bornheim travel guide), a city with about 50,000 inhabitants in North Rhine—Westphalia, is certainly not one of those. What makes Bornheim special is its great location right between two major cities. Bornheim offers the best of both worlds. One the one hand it is only a stone’s throw away from Bonn (Bonn vacation rentals | Bonn travel guide) and Cologne (Cologne vacation rentals | Cologne travel guide) and on the other hand Bornheim is a tranquil place surrounded by beautiful nature, where you can spend your days in relaxed atmosphere.

Bornheim borders on Bonn, Germany’s former capital, in the South and is only 12 miles South of Cologne, Germany’s media center and home of the world—famous Cologne Cathedral. Cologne hosts a number of trade shows, such as Art Cologne, imm Cologne International Furniture Fair and the Photokina. It is also well known for its Carnival celebrations, the annual reggae summerjam and Cologne Gay Pride. Bonn is the seat of some of Germany's largest corporate players, chiefly in the areas of telecommunications and logistics. Simultaneously, Bonn has established itself as an important national and international center of meetings, conventions and conferences, many of which are directly related to the work of the United Nations. As you can see, there are many reasons why people would want or need to visit Cologne and Bonn. It can be exciting to spend some time in a buzzing city, but it also gets exhausting soon. Those of you, who want to be able to recharge your batteries from time to time or just save some money on hotel fees, are well advised to book yourselves into a guesthouse in Bornheim.

Bornheim has great public transport. There is a tramway system in the whole Rhein—Sieg district, which gets you around quick and easy. You can reach Cologne and Bonn by tram in only a couple of minutes all day long. Additionally, there is a frequent train connection between the three cities and you can even use public busses.

But let’s forget about Cologne and Bonn for now. Bornheim might not be as big and internationally acclaimed as its neighboring cities, but it certainly is a town you can spend a wonderful time in.

Additionally there is a spa area, where you can enjoy massages or work on your perfect tan in the solarium.

Bornheim has many great cafes, pubs and restaurants, which are just waiting for you to be discovered. If you really want to indulge yourself, book a table at Hotel Rheinterrassen. This hotel and restaurant has been a traditional family business since 1645, is located right by the river Rhine and serves delicious upscale food. Should you prefer a more relaxed atmosphere, check out Pinup. This highly modern and stylish venue is a bowling alley, restaurant and bar at the same time, where you can party and enjoy yourself all night long. There is also an amazing breakfast brunch served every Sunday from 10am until 2pm.

So, next time you plan to visit Cologne or Bonn, don’t forget Bornheim, a town in green surroundings, where prices are significantly lower than in the big cities and where you have the chance to relax a bit but still are close enough to the buzzing metropolises.
