Being one of the most popular castles in the world, Neuschwanstein is a must see when you are in the area. After all, Disney's Cinderella castle was inspired amongst other French castles by Neuschwanstein.
Neuschwanstein Castle was built between 1869 and 1886 under King Ludwig II of Bavaria. Called the castle of the "fairy tale king" it attracts and estimated 1.3 million visitors a year. Built by King Ludwig II in 1886, his main goal was to have privacy within the castle and its idyllic surroundings. He was a very private and shy person and only had a certain number of guests that were allowed to visit him.
Being a nature lover, King Ludwig II made sure that the surroundings would not be spoiled by the building of his castle. One location where you can witness how well his instructions were respected is the view from the close by Marienbrücke.
Make sure to visit this beautiful castle. It is really amazing in every sense, be it the castle itself, its history, the surrounding nature with its lakes, mountains and waterfalls as well as the views that inspired so many great artists throughout time. Truly magical in every way!

This is how you can reach the Hohenschwangau village by car:
- Nearest Motorway / Expressway: Autobahn A7
- Direction: Kempten - Füssen (Fuessen)
- Gateway / Exit: at the end of the motorway / expressway Nesselwang - Lachen.
- Distance from the motorway exit to Hohenschwangau: approx. 20 Km.
- Short drive description: Drive the motorway/ expressway A7 direction Ulm-Kempten-Füssen until the end. At the exit drive in direction to Füssen. From the Füssen city drive into the federal road B17 direction Schwangau and follow the signs to Hohenschwangau village/ Königsschlösser (Royal castles).

Tickets can be obtained at the Hohenschwangau ticket center (see link below.)
Ticket prices for adults are € 9,00, and children (under 18) are free.
Opening Hours
- April - September: 9 a.m. - 6 p.m., cash desk open from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
- October - March: 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. cash desk open from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
The Neuschwanstein Castles is closed on the following days:
- January 01, December 24, December 25, December 31 and Shrove Tuesday
