Every summer the city of Hamburg (Hamburg vacation rentals | Hamburg travel guide) turns into a Mecca for bikers for a couple of days. In 2011 the Hamburg Harley Days are celebrated in the North German metropolis from the 24th until the 26th of June. More than 50.000 bikers from all over Europe and countless sightseers make this event the largest inner—city motorcycle festival on the European continent.

The main festival area is situated around the central market, very close to the harbor and Hamburg’s infamous red light district Reeperbahn. Various music acts, ranging from pop and rock to jazz and country artists, perform here on a large stage all weekend. One of the expected top acts is Chris Thompson, a legendary rock musician and former singer of The Alan Parson Project, who will be on stage at 9pm on Friday. Further entertainment is provided by several amazing stunt and dragster shows.

The so—called Harley Village is the place to go if you are not only out to have a fun time, but also are seriously into motorcycles. Several Harley Davidson dealers showcase their bikes here. Visitors have the chance to take a close look at the latest models and even take them on a short test drive if they would like to.

A certain highlight of the Hamburg Harley Days is the Ride—In Bike Show, which takes place on Saturday afternoon. About 100 of the most interesting customized bikes are presented here and judged by an expert jury.

The great finale of the Harley Days takes place on Sunday when a church service is held in the St. Michaelis Church, one of the most famous landmarks of Hamburg, and afterwards a convoy of thousands of Harleys rides through the whole city.

This motorcycle festival certainly is the most special and exciting event in Hamburg’s social calendar and simply a must for every true biker.
