art district), a museum quarter which houses many of the most significant pieces of art worldwide. The Kunstareal consists of several art museums and galleries, one of which is the Alte Pinakothek (Old Pinakothek) art gallery.
The Alte Pinakothek is one of the oldest galleries in the world and focuses on 14th to 18th century European painting. The Munich collection is vast. More than 800 superb pieces are on display, which make it possible to explore the development of painting from the Middle Ages through to the end of the Rococo era. Especially its collection of Early Italian, Old German, Old Dutch and Flemish paintings belongs to the most important ones in the world. The museum prouds itself in owning Raphael’s

Additionally to the permanent exhibition, the Alte Pinakothek art gallery puts on several special exhibitions per year, that revolve around themes taken from aspects of European painting beginning with the Middle Ages through to the 18th century.
