Roman Festival in Trier (Trier vacation rentals | Trier travel guide)
The amphitheatre and the imperial baths are the settings for a genuine Roman festival. Experience this ancient period in a breathtaking show of enthralling fights, artistic performances and entertainment or learn something about antique crafts by watching and actively participating in the manufacturing process.
This festival pays homage to the Roman history of the city, and usually takes place during August. The Bread and Circuses festival celebrates the way of life back during the Roman era. The festival takes place at two different Roman sites in Trier; the Amphitheatre and the old Imperial Baths. Both locations have a different spin on things. The Amphitheatre puts on a grand display of gladiatorial fights and other exciting performances, great stuff for any thrill seeking historians amongst us! The Imperial Baths meanwhile, exhibits the day to day life of both military and civilian Romans. Here, you can see many actors in traditional Roman costumes, traditional dances, crafts, and much more. The Bread and Circuses festival was the winner of the German “Land of Ideas” award in 2006.
