Entering the magnificent Käthe Wohlfahrt Weihnachtsdorf in the town center of Rothenburg ob der Tauber (Rothenburg ob der Tauber vacation rentals | Rothenburg ob der Tauber travel guide) makes you feel like you just stepped into the workshop of Santa Claus. This amazing shop filled with sparkling Christmas gems, life—size nutcrackers, beautiful angels and cute snow mans feels like a magical wonderland for everybody who likes Christmas.
The today world—famous corporation Käthe Wohlfahrt was founded 1964 when the gates to the
Weihnachtsdorf, the Christmas Village, in Rothenburg ob der Tauber opened for the first time. The family Wohlfahrt got their idea for this business through a visit from their American friends. The Army officer and his wife were so taken by the family’s traditional Christmas music box that they did not want to have to go back to the US without one for themselves. Unfortunately their visit took place in the summer time so it was sheer impossible to find such a music box for sale anywhere. Wilhelm Wohlfahrt decided to find a replica of the family heirloom for his friends and so came across a wholesaler who would only sell the music box in quantities of ten. Mr. Wohlfahrt made the purchase, presented one to his American friends, sold the nine others and the rest is history.
Käthe Wohlfahrt’s Weihnachtsdorf in Rothenburg ob der Tauber is were the many wonderful and handcrafted ornaments and decorations are designed and produced. Master artists and craftsmen work together to create unique and one—of—a—kind Christmas items, such as magnificent mouth—blown and hand—painted glass ornaments or the
Rothenburger HolzBuddies. These charming figures are crafted from real wood, colorfully painted and trimmed with the smallest of details.
