One of the largest concentrations of urban areas in all of Germany lies in Nordrhein-Westfalen, thus it should not come as a surprise that this state offers a large variety of Christmas markets for the discerning shopper. The Christmas markets in Nordrhein- Westfalen range in focus from the local to the international and everything in between. Düsseldorf - This Christmas market takes place over six locations across the downtown area and features over 200 stands. A free ice skating rink is sure to attract a large number of visitors on the frosty winter nights. The children will also enjoy the performances done at the marionette theater.

While wandering through this market, you will encounter goods and foods from Africa, Russia, Australia, the U.S., Cuba, Poland, Saudi Arabia, France, and the Netherlands to name just a few.

Münster - Like the large market in Dortmund, the Christmas market in Muenster has over 300 stalls offering a variety of Westphalian and German goods. The market is actually composed of five distinct markets scattered across the Altstadt. The biggest market is located at Platz des Westfaelischen Friedens near the city hall. Another prominent market is at the foot of the St. Lamberti Church, where a 18-meter high Christmas tree can be found. A large carousel nearby will provide a fun break for the children.
