If you are on a family holiday in the Ruhr area in the west of Germany and you want to make sure your children experience an unforgettable day, take them to Pumpkin Island. This fantastic nature park is located in Nievenheim, a small town right between Dusseldorf and Cologne (Cologne vacation rentals | Cologne travel guide). Pumpkin Island is open all day and every day from the 1st of May until the 1st of November every year and an ideal destination for a day trip, if you want your children to be able to run wild in a save environment while you enjoy a relaxing day.
Pumpkin Island is good fun for visitors of all ages. While children discover the many attractions of the park and play with their peers, the adults enjoy delicious cocktails at the beach bar. One of the main attractions at Pumpkin Island is the beach area, which exudes a tropical air. Especially in midsummer, when you lie on your canvas chair hidden underneath a giant parasol and sip a tropical cocktail while your children play in the white sand, it is easy to forget that you are in Germany and not in the Caribbean. For cooler days Pumpkin Island has many other attractions in store. There is a beach volleyball field and a trampoline for the sporty ones. A definite highlight is the 50.000 square meter big maze built into a cornfield as well as a giant bouncing castle. Little discoverers will be especially happy about the huge pirate ship they can explore as well as a fake village, where children can get a true idea of country life. Additionally, there is a large number of teeter—totters, swings, toys, bobby cars and many other things spread around the park, just waiting for excited children to play with and enjoy.
If you would like to join your children in their activities, you should all come together and play a game of swin—golf, which is a kind of miniature golf that is played on an acre.
In addition to all these permanent attractions, Pumpkin Island puts on various special events on a regular basis. During the last month of this season the so-called
Fright Night takes place every Saturday evening. For this, adventurous children and parents come together and arm themselves with torches to embark on scary—funny witch—hunts all through the maze. Afterwards everybody sits around a cozy campfire, eats roasted marshmallows and listens to scary stories.
Pumpkin Island is a place where you can forget about reality for a day and just have fun. If you are in the Ruhr at the moment, come to Nievenheim and check it out!
