Jazz lovers and fans of alternative music festivals should plan a trip to Hamburg (Hamburg vacation rentals | Hamburg travel guide) for the end of May. This year the annual ELBJAZZ Festival takes place in the port of Hamburg on the 27th and 28th of May. During those two days you can watch more than 50 Jazz concerts in ten venues in the city’s harbor district.

ELBJAZZ only premiered in May 2010 and made a lasting impression on the city. The event attracted more than 10.000 visitors, who turned the usually busy port into one giant party zone. The ELBJAZZ Festival was created by Tina Heine and Nina Sauer, two Hamburg locals, whose goal it was to make Jazz accessible to a wider audience and show it for what it is: colorful, lively, groovy, diverse and danceable music for young and old.

During the ELBJAZZ festival 2011, music will be played all over the harbor district. Concerts take place in— and outdoors, in small pubs and on large stages. All these venues are connected by ferries, which visitors can use free of charge to get from place to place. This is a great way to get to know the port of Hamburg, the third largest one in Europe, and enjoy its sizzling atmosphere.

At the ELBJAZZ festival 2011, established Jazz musicians and newcomers from all over the world come to Hamburg to present themselves and their music. Some of the confirmed artists include American Star bassist Charlie Haden and his Quartet West, Scottish Shooting Star Paolo Nutini, Funk Unit with Swedish trombonist Nils Landgren, as well as famous singers like Maria João and Kurt Elling, Jazz—DJ Nicola Conte and different formations led by Klaus Doldinger, Germany’s very own Jazz legend.

For further information on the ELBJAZZ festival 2011 or to order tickets online, please visit http://www.elbjazz.de/en. Tickets cost €59.90 per person for both days or €39.90 for either Friday or Saturday.
